5th graders worked today on a Welcome Song from Africa! We watched a video of Funga Alafia and made our own version. It is still a little rocky, but we are proud of how awesome it sounds with just one day of practice!
Funga Alafia is a greeting with wishes of good health. Ashe is sort of saying "May the Force be with you." Sometimes meaning is hard to translate. Rock on 5th grade.

7th/8th Band at Homecoming
On Friday, September 22, 2017 the 7th and 8th grade band members participated in Homecoming at LCHS. They played with the high school band and it sounded great! Check out the pictures and videos from practice and the performance below. Feel free to comment and share any videos or pictures you have as well.
Great job, everyone!!
So far this year, we have been working to prepare for the Homecoming Performance with the High School band. Two students have elected to audition for ILMEA honor band! They will travel to Geneseo on the 30th of the September for those auditions. More information is coming!
After only four rehearsals of band, they are actually playing a recognizable melody! It may not be perfect, but they are sounding pretty good already. This is really incredible and they are working very hard to learn this new and challenging music. Keep rocking, middle school band!! Every student in 5th Grade is encouraged to sign up for band! We have openings for all instruments, including percussion!
